Cortisol
Cortisol belongs to a class of hormones called glucocorticoids, which are involved in regulating metabolism and immune response. Its primary function is to increase blood sugar levels, suppress the immune system, and aid in fat, protein, and carbohydrate metabolism. This steroid hormone plays an important role in the body’s response to situations in which our brains register a challenge to our bodily resources (which commonly is referred to as being confronted with a stressor and being in a state of stress). It is produced by the adrenal glands, which are located above each kidney.
How Does Cortisol Work?
How Does Light Therapy Help Regulate Your Cortisol Levels?
Light therapy, can influence the regulation of levels of cortisol through its impact on the body’s circadian rhythm. This is the body’s internal clock that regulates various physiological processes, including the sleep-wake cycle and hormone production. Here’s how light therapy contributes to cortisol regulation:
• Circadian Rhythm Alignment
• Melatonin Suppression
• Improved Sleep Quality
• Enhanced Mood and Reduced Stress
